ASCENSION A COMMUNITY OF FAITH
Ancient Paths. Present Faith. Eternal Hope.
"Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it."
— Jeremiah 6:16
What We Believe
Our Beliefs and Mission
Our Core Values
We embrace ancient Christian creeds, believing in our role as sojourners bringing God's kingdom reign into every aspect of life, fostering redemption in personal, religious, family, community, and cultural spheres.
Our Theological Foundation
Rooted in pre-1900s Christian theology, we aim to share the transformative message of the kingdom of God, fulfilling the Great Commission and impacting lives through faith and community engagement.
What we Believe – The Important Stuff
You may find our Creed, which is based on the Nicene Creed HERE
We Believe in the ancient ways of Christianity. Our beliefs are founded in the ancient creeds. Our theology is based in the Christian theology of the Church prior to the 1900s.
We Believe that as Christians we are sojourners and aliens in this world (Hebrews 11:13) whose purpose is to bring the great news of the coming of the Kingdom Reign of God into the world.
We Believe that the Kingdom Reign of God is to be redemptive in all areas (Colossians 1:13-20) of life: personal, religious, family, community and culture.
We Believe that the Great Commission (Matthew 28:17-20) and the Two Great Commandments (Matthew 22:37-40) as given by the Lord Jesus are to be the foundation stone of Christian Life, life in the congregation, and the ministry of the congregation.
We believe that the Bible, as breathed by God to the original authors, in the original language, in the culture of the people they were written to, to be the infallible, wholly inspired and complete word of God.
We believe in the ministry of all believers, that the Holy Spirit empowers (1 Corinthians 12:4-6) each member within the community of faith to bring the ministry of Christ to the world and that leadership's role is to guide, nurture and develop the giftedness of the community's members to health and maturity.
We Believe that the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts of sin (John 16:7-8) and the Father is the one who prunes away dead works (John 15:1-2) and that life change occurs through the transformative work of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18) in the life of the Christian.
We believe that standing up for the oppressed and caring for those in need, the hurting, and the afflicted (Isaiah 61:1) is a core element of Christian life and service.
We believe that all men are to be treated with dignity (1 Peter 2:17), regardless of social position, life circumstances (James 2:1-5), or lifestyle choices (2 Corinthians 5:16-20).
We Believe that it is our responsibility as a community to portray the loving Christ who died for the sins of all mankind to the people of the world around us.
We Believe that the body of Christ is placed in the world to bring the people of the world into a loving relationship with their Creator God through the atonement of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:16-20).
We believe Christianity should not be politicized. God is neither a Democrat nor a Republican, American nor foreigner.
We believe that the Holy Scriptures and science are compatible. That any conflict between them are formed on the basis of bias on one or the other side of the argument by those formulating theory or theology.
We are not ashamed of the Gospel (Romans 1:16) , knowing that it is the power of God to salvation for all men.
The Ascension Creed
We believe in one God; the Eternal, Living God who is present in time and space, just as He is present in the heavenly places.
We believe the Eternal exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the one true and eternal Son of God — eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God; begotten, not made; of one Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation, He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He became incarnate of the Virgin Mary and was made man.
For the sake of our sins, He was handed over to Pontius Pilate, falsely accused, brutally beaten, and crucified. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day, He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and was exalted by the Father to rule at His right hand.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, and who makes manifest Their power and majesty in time and space. He is worshiped and glorified with the Father and the Son.
We believe in one holy Christian Church composed of all who claim salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
We acknowledge one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, and in all.
We await the resurrection of the dead, and the life everlasting in the world to come.
